Dominic Glynn Releases The Gallifrey Mixes

There won’t be many Whovians who don’t know the name Dominic Glynn; for better or worse he was the man given the task in the mid ’80s of reinvigorating the opening theme to Doctor Who. Some love his version, others loathe it, but none can deny it was memorable!

Now the man who went on to compose music for everything from Red Dwarf to The Simpsons is set to release the theme as a collection of exclusive remixes. Blasphemy, I hear you cry, but wait – did I mention that Mr Glynn is also a world famous techno and dance DJ as well as composer?

The EP will see the first new mix in twelve years from Syzygy – the underground electronica duo of Dominic Glynn and Justin Mackay, best known for their techno and ambient dance releases on the Rising High label. It will also feature the version originally performed at the Gallifrey One fan convention in Los Angeles in February, now known as the “Gallifrey One Remix”.

Will you be picking this up? Will you avoid it like the plague? Is the original sacred to you or are you open to new interpretations? Let us know your thoughts below!

Available from No Bones Records for download via iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, Juno Records and all the usual digital services from 16th June.

I think you mean Peter Howell as the composer of the 1980-1985 theme. Dominic Glynn composed the version of the theme that was only aired during the 1986 Trial season.

Incidentally, I was lucky enough to hear his performance of this track live at Gallifrey One this year, and it was sensational. Can’t wait to buy it.

Danny, Dominic Glynns version of the theme tune was for only one season, season 23 Trial of a Time Lord. I like this version of the theme and Dominic’s incidental music was much better than Keff McCullochs.
