The Day of the Doctor Trailer on Saturday!

The Day of the Doctor official trailer will air in the UK this Saturday just before 8pm!

Yep, we’ve all been waiting for it, and the BBC has finally obliged. We’ve been teased with that #SaveTheDay thing that bookended Atlantis and that wonderful ‘tribute’ trailer, which celebrated all eleven Doctors and countless enemies. But it’s finally here.

Airing between Strictly Come Dancing and Atlantis, we expect to see the Eleventh and Tenth Doctors interacting with John Hurt’s Not-Quite-Doctor, as well as Clara Oswald, Rose Tyler, Daleks, a Zygon, and UNIT.

The BBC caused a bit of a commotion after screening an exclusive trailer months ago at the San Diego Comic Con, so fingers crossed this will appease fans.

The trailer is sure to be all over the internet by 8:01pm (UK time), but if you wanna catch it on first broadcast, tune into BBC1 on Saturday 9th November!

It’s been a long wait too. I still think there seems to be a lack of publicity for the special – I know over the next two weeks it will be relentless, but my non DW friends, who amount to about 99.9% of my social circle, have absolutely no idea it’s the anniversary this month.

The BBC has been celebrating it all year! They haven’t been paying attention. And the trailer from a few weeks back is airing internationally, so they’re doing plenty. Remember, the BBC usually doesn’t start really promoting things until a few weeks before broadcast. And I don’t expect to see everything that the writer predicts in the trailer either. Notably they’re really keeping Billie under wraps, to the extent that they didn’t even release any interview with her in the latest round of promotion.

3 weeks before airdate sounds about typical to me, and there are a whole raft of other programmes in the run-up; the BBC are hardly ignoring the occasion!

Most of my non-fan friends couldn’t give a monkey’s about the anniversary and won’t watch the special however heavily it’s trailed. One’s going to watch the Brian Cox “Science of Doctor Who” thing, because she’s a science geek. Another will have it on for the sake of her kids, but will be “getting on with something more useful” herself.

Let’s not kid ourselves; we are a small proportion of the BBC’s audience and as I’ve said many times before I don’t care I’m just happy to have this wonderful programme on my television at all!

I think the BBC has played the publicity game to perfection. They’ve held back their secrets, let the speculation bubble, and started releasing nuggets of publicity at exactly the right time. Textbook PR.

Actual broadcast time confirmed as 7:50pm 23/11/13

You (probably didn’t) read it here first, but BBC have put it on the Face of Boeok
