The Tenth Planet DVD Release Rescheduled

In news that will do nothing to assuage theories about rumoured missing episodes being released on DVD for Doctor Who‘s 50th anniversary, The Tenth Planet DVD release has been rescheduled.

Classic Doctor Who on DVD - The Tenth Planet

Originally slated for release on 18th November, the BBC tell us that the First Doctor’s swansong versus the newly discovered Cybermen is now due out on 14th October. Whether the rescheduling – first rumoured last night on Twitter when Sainsbury’s altered their listing – is due to the surprise release of anything newly discovered is of course, up for speculation

The rearranged release schedule is as follows:

  • Doctor Who: The Monster Collection – 30th September 2013.
  • Doctor Who: Terror of the Zygons – 30th September 2013.
  • Doctor Who: The Tenth Planet – 14th October 2013.
  • Doctor Who: Complete Series 7 – 28th October 2013.
  • Doctor Who: Complete 1-7 Blu-ray – 4th November 2013.
  • Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor Anniversary release – 2nd December 2013.

You will notice that September and October each has two releases, while November and December both feature just the single DVDs issues. Plenty of space, a cynic with an interest in these things might think, for at least one more unexpected disc to be added to the schedule.

Until we know more, you can order The Tenth Planet from Amazon now for just £13.50 !

Still shows as 18th November on Amazon. Play.com shows 14th October.

    • It is an official notice from the BBC, Tony – forgot to mention in the original post which is now updated.

And other sites are carrying the revise date. It might just be that my computer is running slow.

A respected episode hunter responsible for finding several missing episodes in the 80′s posted recently on the Missing Episodes forum that not only was the BBC officially holding several missing stories/episodes for Dr Who but they were actively being readied for DVD release. His post’s were deleted very quickly after.

Personally I think the silence over these rumours is deafening. If someone will just say officially ‘nothing found or held’ then I’ll shut up and get on with my life!

It wont be much longer before we know either way…Personally, I’m very optimistic.

“Plenty of space… for at least one more unexpected disc…” The words of an optimist more than a cynic, methinks. I would love for the new finds, and the surprise release rumblings to be true. Aside from the obvious, it would be so cool for *something* to be a surprise this year! :)

Is it possible that the December release is, in effect, the second November release, which has just been pushed back a few days into December because the secrecy issues surrounding the November 23rd broadcast have delayed the normal process? That the December schedule will be announced later?

How does this measure up with previous years? Are there always two releases in a calendar month? Even December? Are they just stretching out the releases, as the DVD range nears the end of the line?

(Just applying Occam’s Razor before I let myself get excited!)
