Did Twelfth Doctor Photographer Just Tweet Gender?

Could this be the tweet that puts an end (until next time) to the chatter among a noisy minority for a female incarnation of the Doctor?

Although there are still a few hours to go before we get to see the unveiling of Matt Smith’s replacement in the international simulcast of Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor, a major clue has been released – perhaps intentionally.

Apparently shooting publicity snaps of the actor set to be unveiled as the Twelfth Doctor later today, photographer Rankin tweeted this:

“He’s”?

But who is “he”? We’ll find out later today – and don’t forget you can catch us live podKasting the big reveal through Google Hangouts and here on the site – check back at 6.30pm GMT for full details!

If there is any significance in a recent follow of his on Twitter, we may have the name too!

  2. Neu 75 says:

    And the name is?

  3. TonyS says:

    Spoilers!

  4. Neu 75 says:

He didn’t happen to have the initials SB by any chance?

  5. TonyS says:

No he didn’t. And I am hoping that it isn’t him.

  6. Martin B says:

You can’t use the spoilers excuse on us. That’s what I use on people! Who is it then?

    • TonyS says:

I can use the spoilers excuse. I wish I hadn’t made my original comment now.

  7. Lewis Seymour says:

Rankin. Whoa. We’ve moved on a bit since the days when the papers sent round the staff photographer to take the snaps of the new Dr, haven’t we!

    • TonyS says:

      Is Rankin famous, then?

      • Lewis Seymour says:

You could say that. He’s one of the major fashion/portrait photographers of our era.

  8. Neu 75 says:

Is it me or has the Fonz started puttng on his flippers?

    • TonyS says:

Let’s hope not. Two hours till we find out.

    • Lewis Seymour says:

SB? Fonz and flippers? You’ve lost me – when I cannot understand DW cultural references I know I must be getting old…

The “SB” I’m still trying to find the source of but apparently it has something to do with the new Doctor. Initials perhaps?

      • Bob James says:

Don’t sweat it, Lewis, it was a ridiculous and completely inappropriate analogy.

  9. TonyS says:

Dr Who Online pointed out that Rankin had recently started following on Twitter Aneurin Barnard, who had been mentioned in connection with the part. Mainly by himself I think. Fonz and flippers is a reference to the episode of Happy Days when the Fonz jumps over a shark. It has become a byword for the point when a programme runs out of ideas and the rot sets in. Thankfully on this occasion the Fonz has taken the flippers off.

    • Neu 75 says:

Indeed and thank Christ for that!
