Doctor Who Arrives on PlayStation Home

Owners of a PlayStation 3 console can finally get their consoles to be a bit bigger on the inside thanks to the upcoming release of the Doctor Who Home environment.

PlayStation Home is a social gaming network for PlayStation members to meet, play games, show off their accomplishments and enjoy other PlayStation exclusive features.

Members have their own virtual “apartment” where their avatar lives and now you can have yours in a special Doctor Who decoration thanks to Sony DADC’s interactive development group, LOOT Entertainment, and BBC Worldwide’s Digital Partnerships team.

The BBC in a press release described the environment that users can enjoy:

Doctor Who fans can enjoy dynamic features based on the show’s most popular characters and scenery, such as the Eleventh Doctor and River Song costumes, and a TARDIS- themed private space and clubhouse. Users can also visit the Doctor Who-themed LOOT Space Station Theatre for additional video content from BBC Worldwide and shop for Doctor Who items – both virtual and real – via LOOT’s Entertainment on Demand system.

More goodies will be added to the environment over the course of 2013 in order to celebrate Doctor Who’s fiftieth anniversary including Doctor Who themed Virtual goods, social experiences and environments.

Basically what this means, kids, is that you can create your own Doctor Who adventure without buying expensive video equipment and props! As you can see below, the expectation is that the results of this software are uploaded to YouTube for the world to see.

If you’re a Doctor Who fan with a PlayStation 3, this is probably the best news that you could ever imagine so get your console online (a basic PlayStation Network account is free as is initial access to Home) and get all your online friends knowing how much of a Doctor Who fan you are!

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
