The Doctor has featured on many-a-magazine cover: he’s appeared numerous times for the Radio Times; he’s graced the front of SFX on a few occasions; and he’s been on the cover of Doctor Who Magazine once or twice too.
But later this month, Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor will make history by appearing on the Fan-Favourite Cover of the USA’s TV Guide.
Doctor Who beat some stiff competition from shows like The Walking Dead, Grimm and Parks and Recreation; something which Matt says is “amazing,” adding:
“Thank you to everyone who voted, because this is a huge, huge accolade. Fans mustn’t underestimate their role in the emergence of the show in America.”
It’s the first time Doctor Who has graced the cover, although it came close in 1996 when a special insert was included about the Paul McGann-helmed TV movie.
The show’s rise in popularity stateside is incredible, surely helped by the TARDIS appearing in the USA in tales like Daleks in Manhattan/ Evolution of the Daleks, The Impossible Astronaut/ Day of the Moon and A Town Called Mercy.
The double-sized TV Guide covers 10th – 23rd December, and also has a tribute to Dallas Legend, Larry Hagman.
