If you were to describe Britain someone who knew nothing about her, what would you use? Fish and chips, EastEnders, cup of tea, rain, a rich history, the Royal Family and long walks in the park might be a few that spring instantly to mind.

But according to a recent survey, most people now like to boast their proud allegiance to Britain through the medium of television (and why not, television is brilliant) and top of the polls for the show that makes the British most proud is our very own Doctor Who!
Carried out by (Yorkshire’s own, ‘appen) telephone and broadband provider Plusnet, Doctor Who is the program that the nation takes the most pride in when asked in a survey. It took an impressive 485 of the voter share, meaning that it’s still official that Doctor Who is just the best thing ever created.
Following hot on its heels was Downton Abbey, but we don’t really need to talk about that here! It’s still brilliant that after so many years of languishing in television purgatory with a view from the public that it was a dead show with wobbly sets and rubbish monsters, Doctor Who is back where it belongs as the jewel in the crown of the BBC.
Now let’s see if we can get Time Lord to be included as a religion on the next census and then we’re really set…
