The Silurian Gift Presented in 2013
The Silurian Gift will follow the tradition of the previous six books in using an established enemy of the Doctor, this time featuring the creatures that were reintroduced to the show in 2010’s The Hungry Earth/ Cold Blood.
The 128-page book will be written by Mike Tucker; though new to the Quick Reads range, Tucker has worked extensively on Doctor Who – in fact, he’s one of only a handful of people to have worked behind-the-scenes on both ‘Classic’ Who and the new series. He previously wrote the New Series Adventure novels, The Nightmare of Black Island and Snowglobe 7, as well as numerous Past Doctor Adventures, two audios for Big Finish and many other works.
The Silurian Gift is the first time he’s written for Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor.
Doctor Who made its debut in the Quick Reads line – which aims to simply get people reading – with 2006’s I Am A Dalek by Gareth Roberts (The Unicorn and the Wasp; Closing Time), and continued with Made of Steel (featuring the Cybermen), and Revenge of the Judoon, both by the legendary Terrence Dicks. Jacqueline Rayner then welcomed us to The Sontaran Games, and in 2010, Justin Richards discovered The Code of the Krillitanes.
Rayner returned with the Eleventh Doctor, Amy and Rory’s first foray into the range, 2012’s Magic of the Angels (a review of which can be found here).
The Silurian Gift will be released on 14th February 2013, alongside five other Quick Reads, including Simon Kernick’s Wrong Time, Wrong Place and Andy McNab’s Today, Everything Changes.
