Matt Smith, Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan in Doctor Who: The Power of Three

UNIT Is Back!

Invading alien forces (even the slow ones) beware! UNIT’s back! And this time they’re aiming to please!

Matt Smith, Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan in Doctor Who: The Power of ThreeSpeaking to Digital Spy Matt Smith has promised this incarnation of the Doctor’s favourite task force – set to appear in this Saturday’s The Power of Three – will please ‘true’ fans of the show:

UNIT’s return is one for the fans. I think they like cyclical things and we have a good story. It was great to do an episode with UNIT and I hope the true fans like it.

While no one will ever recapture the chemistry between the Doctor and the beloved Brigadier, the new boss, Kate Stewart, played by Jemma Redgrave (Waking the Dead), has already earned her stripes:

I loved Jemma Redgrave! She was graceful, funny and charming and an absolute delight.

Offering a ‘clever twist’ on an old favourite Steven Moffat couldn’t say no to writer Chris Chibnall’s promise of a new UNIT :

When I was a kid, and just getting obsessed about the Doctor (still not recovered) it was the Jon Pertwee era, and UNIT was as big a part of the show as the TARDIS itself.

So when Chris asked if he could bring them back, I couldn’t say yes fast enough. And being Chris, he gave it a clever little twist which I know the fans are going to love.

Doctor Who continues this Saturday with The Power of Three at 7:30 pm on BBC One and BBC HD.

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.
