Eccleston Cast as Thor 2 Villain!

Former Doctor Who star Christopher EcclestonBy the hammer of Thor! Former Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston has been cast as the big bad in Thor 2: The Dark World reports SFX.

Eccleston – who has a bit of a side career as a British Hollywood villain after become the mortal enemy of every magnet as Destro in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and (Spoiler Alert!) spoke about carpentry in Gone in 60 Seconds – will be taking on the mantle of Malekith the Accursed; ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, one of Asgard’s Nine Realms.

In the Marvel Universe, Malekith clashes with the hammer-wielding son of Odin as the Accursed sets in motion a chain of events designed to unleash the frigid frozen power of the Casket of Ancient Winters.

Thor 2: The Dark World, directed by Game of Thrones’ Alan Taylor, stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Idris Elba, Zachary Levi and Stellan Skarsgard and is scheduled to be released in the UK in November 2013.

About the Author

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.

I’m all for any Whovian representing my Marvel Universe, and I think he’s a perfect choice for the appearance and outlandish portrayal of Malekith the Accursed. He did a fine job in G.I. Joe and I’m sure he will find his “Accursed” side for the Asgardian war. I was inspired to watch Thor again after seeing these articles, only to find out my kids lost it. So I just ordered it on Blu-Ray from Blockbuster @Home, and my Dish coworker came over to see it with me. I’ve had it for over a week, and there’s never a late fee.
