Tickets to the New York premiere of Asylum of the Daleks sold out in just twenty minutes – and crashed the Movie Tickets website after fans were directed to it by BBC America.
The tickets cost just eleven cents (as the site wouldn’t let them advertise for free), plus a $1 service charge, and went on sale on Thursday, in preparation for a screening at 6pm on 25th August at the Ziegfeld Theatre. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and executive producer, Caroline Skinner, while more tickets will be available to win via BBC America’s Tumblr and Twitter accounts.
The website is reported to have slowed to a crawl, and the customer service number was jammed by people trying to ascertain whether their possibly-aborted transactions would result in tickets. BBC America has apologised to the fans, who will now have to wait to see Asylum until… well, sometime in September!
The Theatre will be packed out as the 800 tickets sold out just twenty minutes after going online. Y’know, there are fruit flies on Hoppledom Six that live for twenty minutes and they don’t even mate for life…
