What’s In A Name, Jenna?

Doctor Who chief Steven Moffat with new companion Jenna ColemanThose of you who haven’t been living in a cave for the last few months (nothing wrong with a good solid cave, excellent for staying off the grid and not getting disturbed by rowdy football fans on match day) will have been hearing all about the new girl that’s set to climb aboard the good ship TARDIS during the Doctor Who Christmas special 2012. The Ponds will be long gone and the Eleventh Doctor will be ready and waiting to welcome Jenna-Louise Coleman’s character with open arms.

But there’s still so much that we don’t know, the Doctor’s newest friend is shrouded in mystery and is apparently going to provide a fiendishly fun back story. But apart from a few tantalizing and cryptic hints, we’ve got nothing.

…other than the unlikely possibility that she might be called something amazing

…and this one additional little morsel.

[spoiler ]

This is all based on rumour mind you and nothing has been confirmed by the Doctor Who team but fans who were watching the recent filming for the 2013 set of Doctor Who episodes with Coleman’s character in them swore blind that they heard her character’s name used, which is apparently “Clara”.

Let’s be honest, you were probably expecting something completely different weren’t you? Maybe “the Emperor”, or “the Controller” or “Mavis” but never Clara!

However at this point there are no facts to back this up apart from a few tweets on Twitter so don’t think about this too much just yet.

Although she most probably will be called Clara.

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!

Just a thought… Clara is also the name of the main character
in the Nutcracker… Would be a fantastic
Christmas-y concept to base a Christmas
Special around, which is when her character
    is introduced… =)

Clara was also Liz Sladen’s middle name.
