Success in the Virgin Media Awards

Not content with having a finger in nearly every pie in the world, Richard Branson has made sure that Virgin has their own television award ceremony just in case you hadn’t noticed the company before.

But this does have its upsides, as The Virgin Media Television awards have given Doctor Who a win in a total of five categories – each of those it was nominated in!

As voted by the public, Doctor Who won television show of the year with a massive forty three per cent of the vote. It beat popular shows such as The Only Way Is Essex, My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and Merlin.

Mr Rory Pond was named TV character of the year, which meant that he beat Captain Jack Harkness from Torchwood and Eric Northman, the vampire from True Blood. The boy who waited two thousand years for Amy Pond obviously tugged at the heart strings of the public more than anyone realised!

Most explosive moment of the year went to the Doctor being shot at the still point in time on a beach in Utah, America in . Best actress and hottest female went to Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan who fought off the likes of Sarah Michelle Gellar (Ringer) and Olivia Wilde (House).

Doctor Who hasn’t had nearly enough awards since 2010, so it’s nice to see it getting some recognition again. Congratulations to all involved and keep up the good work!

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
