What Will the Future Bring?

Tonight on both sides of the Atlantic, Doctor Who returns to our screens with six brand spanking new episodes guaranteed to make your eyeballs bleed through sheer joy!

But, there are plenty of things that need to be answered in order for everyone to feel entirely pleased. Looking at website, they have created a list of what they believe should be addressed for things to be tied up neatly.

First of all you’ve got the Silence, nasty big old aliens that clearly haven’t been killed off as we see them in modern day America in The Impossible Astronaut. What are their plans and what exactly does the phrase “Silence will fall” actually mean?

The Doctor now knows that he has an impending date with death in the shape of a mysterious astronaut but who exactly is it that shoots that fatal shot? River, the Doctor himself? Who is the mysterious shape hiding behind the wooden shack when all this happens (watch the scene where old Canton turns up at the beginning closely to see a shadowy figure hiding behind the small shack in the background)? Will the Doctor be able to get out of this one?

And what exactly is going to happen with River now that we know her origins? Hopefully we’re going to see her growing up and learn more about why she was arrested and who she killed but how long will The Grand Moff make us wait for this?

On top of these burning issues, we also still want to find out about the clerics and Madame Kovarian and exactly why they’re fighting an “endless war” against the Doctor. Looking further back to Series 5, who caused the TARDIS to explode? Who was the mysterious voice declaring “Silence will fall”? And most importantly, did Rory and Amy ever get the Doctor to get rid of their bunk beds?

Hopefully, all should start being revealed tonight, possibly not the bunk bed issue though.

If you missed Let’s Kill Hitler, don’t forget that you can catch it on BBC iPlayer!

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!

To me, personally, I know who that voice sounded like on the TARDIS; it’s the one character we haven’t seen since the Tennant-era and never saw actually die: Davros.

As for Kovarian, the Confidential episode is intriguing. In the fiction it’s always been implied with the Time Lords that they became extinct when The Doctor’s 9th incarnation hurled the Eye of Harmony into their star, causing it to supernova – but the Dalek Emperor’s ship survived this eventuality by using their time drives. With the introduction of The Master back into the Time War, what transpired may not be as cut and dried as we believe…

The point is, by the end of the war the two biggest threats to The Doctor were Davros and the Time Lords themselves. Is it really inconceivable that some of them might ally to figh a common enemy, and the Silence are “War Forms”?

Beyond everything, I like the way the whole relationship between the Doctor and River came a quantum step forward.
