The Time Monster Set

Doctor Who: The Time MonsterRecently there has been some concern that some of the Doctor Who action figure sets that have been released have been simple “re-hashing” of old sets. Reused Daleks and only ever so slightly changed incarnations of the Doctor that may not be worth shelling out extra amounts of money on, in some people’s opinion.

The latest set to be released seems to follow that same pattern, but nevertheless looks pretty spiffing!
The Time Monster set sees a rather splendid casting of the Roger Delgado incarnation of the Master along with his TARDIS, disguised as a computer bank. Alongside these you also get little extras as well including the Master’s Tissue Compression Eliminator, a Kronos Crystal fragment and a time sensor device that actually belongs to the Doctor.

Whereas before some of the sets released may have included figures that have been available, this set certainly provides something unique for the buyer.

This little item is available to pre-order now from Forbidden Planet’s website and is priced at £19.99. Shipments will be heading out from 2nd June 2011.

As usual, you are under no obligation to go out and buy this set however it does have a wonderful sense of detail to it that should be carefully considered!

The Master is a re-issue and the Tardis is simply a plastic box, no doors, or sounds. Its a rotocast toy, solid plastic. Same as Sils tank that was released with Peri.

How is this set more than just a simple rebranding or rehashing?

It’s the Master that was released in the Axos set, but with a little plastic computer and a couple of flimsy little gizmos.

I mean, ‘The Time Monster’ – come on! It’s not even a well-remembered story to base a set on.

What’s happened is, they’ve thought, “How can we find a way to resell the Delgado figure? I know – do one with his TARDIS! But we’ve already done Axos, so we can’t have his TARDIS from that…… which leaves us with…..”

Sorry to bang on about this as I do often, but CO feed on the gullible and those with bulging wallets.
