Why not “Blaidd Drwg”?

A major new building that will house some of the BBC’s flagship productions has been named Porth Teigr.

The development, which is 36 (!) acres in size, will be located in Cardiff Bay. BBC Wales has signed up to the project where Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures will be based.

Development Director Mark Hallett commented:

“We are seeing increased numbers of inquiries from companies interested in locating their business close to the BBC drama production studios and are confident that Porth Teigr will, over time, become an internationally recognized mixed-use location, attracting new jobs and investment into Wales.”

He also remarked on the traditional feel that he was going for when coming up with the projects name:

“We did think about Tiger Bay. However, it was never a geographical ward in the city, but was more about the spirit of the place which people often refer to. ..we wanted to brand the development with a name which reflects both the history of the Cardiff Bay area and its fantastic waterside location.”

So it looks like the good Doctor and his friends will have even more space to play around with from next year. What exactly this means in terms of budget requirements is anyone’s guess but we can’t wait to see the results…

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
