River’s Secret is Coming…

Steven Moffat has come clean about one of the key elements of the next series of Doctor Who – the true identity of River Song (Alex Kingston).

Speaking to New York Magazine, the series showrunner  revealed that he is in the process of writing the very episode where River Song’s true intentions are made clear…

“Well, you will find out who she is and what’s going on and how it all makes sense. And that will explain a number of things,” he said. “I’m writing the episode right now where The Doctor finds out who she is. We’re not just going to endlessly tease.”

This isn’t the first time The Grand Moff has hinted at a resolution of this mystery – in The Brilliant Book he reveals that she isn’t an android – while the Daily Star reckoned earlier this year that something interesting might happen to River Song (POTENTIAL SPOILER)

Alex Kingston has appeared in six episodes of Doctor Who to date as River Song – 2008′s Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, and 2010′s The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone and The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang. From her first appearance opposite David Tennant throughout her appearances opposite Matt Smith it has been suggested that River Song was somehow the Doctor’s future wife, but there is a considerable grey area surrounding the whole “riffing on The Time Traveller’s Wife” thing that has been going on and it wouldn’t be much of a stretch of the imagination to suggest that just perhaps Steven Moffat has been leading us down the garden path…
