This time around, however, the most recent series is being applauded, as opposed to picking up awards on the back of the Russell T Davies era, something that has happened on a couple of cases already this year.
Karen Gillan was on hand to pick up the TV Choice award for Best Family Drama (and it was great to see Ashes to Ashes win Best Drama Series), and looked rather stunning in a short red dress and jacket.
So, at last the Steven Moffat era of Doctor Who is beginning to gain the recognition it deserves – the differences between this and the previous era are obvious, from the quite different personnel to the change in dramatic scale.
The Grand Moff has woven a fairytale-like atmosphere of adventure and amazing creatures and situations – the audience figures have stayed pretty much the same (see Doctor Who Magazine 425 for full details on this) and the era of Russell T Davies, the Tenth Doctor and the ever returning Rose Tyler are now a fond, distant memory.
Congratulations then the Steven Moffat, Karen Gillan and Matt Smith and everyone involved with the 31st season (or 5th series) of Doctor Who – we reckon you’ll be lining up for more awards over the next few months!
