Eccleston Praises Smith

Could former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston be a fan of one of his successors? That’s certainly the feeling you get from an interview with make-up artist Davy Jones.

It seems that during the production of The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood, Jones – who had previously worked on Russell T Davies’ first series back in 2005 – revealed to Matt Smith that Ninth Doctor actor Christopher Eccleston was an admirer!

“[Matt] came over to me when I was applying the make-up and said it looked fantastic, and we got chatting,” he explained. “I was able to tell him that I had been talking to Chris Eccleston recently, who said he’d seen Matt in a couple of plays and thought he was a great choice for Doctor Who.”

“[Matt] was quite blown over to hear that Chris thought he was good!”

Of course, we all know that Christopher Eccleston is a man to make sweeping and memorable decisions.

If he thinks Matt Smith is a “great choice”, then who can argue?
