Hang the DJ

The Doctor has, many times, been called upon to save all manner of beings from various tricky situations but never has he saved Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans from looking a bit stupid, until now!

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan have stepped into the breach by agreeing to appear on wallpaper twee-a-thon The One Show after producers failed to book any guests for his debut show.

Evans, who lets not forget was once married to Billie Piper, the sly dog, was announced as the Friday night host of the BBC consumer show last April, and presents his first edition with Alex Jones tomorrow.

However, according to Kasterborous’ favourite publication The Sun, (which you can read by not clicking here) no guests had been confirmed by as late as yesterday, leading to frantic last minute calls to PR Companies, Agents and Billy Zane (who he? -Ed).

One agent said:

“They’ve known for months that Chris Evans will be hosting the show this Friday. So we were quite surprised they were asking so late in the day if we had anyone who could appear on the show.

“Getting people at short notice in summer is tricky, so it was pretty odd for them to be getting their begging bowl out like that.”

A master of understatement, a One Show insider described the situation as ‘tense’. Leading to good old Smith & Gillan to fly in and save the day. Hurrah!

Now none of this would have happened if the BBC would have agreed to my One Show replacement The Cricket Bat and Whistle Hour, featuring a Cricket Bat… and a Whistle… for an hour… interviewing guests…

It could’ve worked.

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.
