Never Seen Who

The Impossible IT Girl Karen Gillan has revealed that before stepping into the cow-boots of Amy Pond; she had never seen an episode of Doctor Who.

Doctor Who's Karen GillanKaren, speaking to BBC Radio Four’s Women’s Hour, said;

“I was obviously aware of Doctor Who and knew what a Dalek was, but it wasn’t on TV when I was growing up.

“I had never watched it and I wasn’t a follower of the show at all. I have just really got into it since i got a part in it.”

The Inverness gal said she would quite happily shun the spotlight, prefering quiet nights in with her long-term boyfriend Photographer Patrick Green. However, she isn’t ungrateful for the success the role has given her:

“Getting the role of Amy has changed my life in so many ways because it’s like no other job in the UK. But my personal life is exactly the same as it was.

“The only difference is that I’m on telly on a Saturday night and people recognise me when I go out. I have a long-term boyfriend, I’m still with him and it just remains the same.”

Gillan is currently filming the Christmas Special, rumoured to be called ‘Father Who’ which guest-stars Dumbledore himself Sir Michael Gambon and singer Katherine Jenkins.

About the Author

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.

    I can understand her never seeing an ep of the classic series but I’m not sure how she could miss the entirety of the first 5 years of the new series, considering she was even in an episode.

    Its odd that she has never, even accidentally seen an episode. I’ve accidentally tuned into guff like Demons and NCIS: Los Angeles and got a pretty good impression of what they’re like.
    Its a strange phenomenon with actors. Some immerse themselves wholly in research and others go with their instincts and let the part dictate their approach to the material.
    Auditions are just like exams and i wouldn’t enter an exam hall with doing a little revision. Even if it was for the role of Druggy No#3 in The Bill, i’d scan an episode.

    maybe she just been really busy. i’ve never even seen a bit of any of the CSI’s and there’s so many of those and I do watch Five occasionally which broadcasts them. The TARDIS got a mention in the aussie soap Neighbours again recently :P
