Early Release Explained

Doctor Who: The Adventure Games - City of the Daleks

The official Doctor Who website has released Doctor Who: The Adventure Games City of the Daleks two days earlier than scheduled causing mixed reactions by some fans.

The first instalment of The Adventure Games is officially released on 5th June 2010 but the BBC website has released an early iteration of the game for testing purposes. Anwen Aspden, executive producer at BBC Wales, told MCV:

“We’re testing the system with an almost-final version of ‘City of the Daleks’ ahead of the official release date,”

He also commented about upcoming changes to Saturday’s final release:

“The reaction so far has been overwhelming, but we’re still investigating whether we should tweak certain elements up to release on 5th June. So whilst those who’ve downloaded and enjoyed it in its current iteration have the advantage of playing through it early, there may be some minor tweaks coming.”

The game itself looks and sounds fantastic and is a lot of fun to play but at the moment is a little slow on even the latest computers. Here’s hoping all problems will be ironed out by tomorrow!

City of the Daleks will officially be available for download from the BBC’s Doctor Who website from tomorrow.

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!

One Response to Early Release Explained

This early release is a real treat! I think the tone and style suits the current era really well, with some neat puzzles and exciting sequences. Amy Pond, in particular, comes across really well. That’s super news, given the fact that the show doesn’t seem to be serving either Amy, or Karen Gillan, too successfully of late. As a freebie, the game shouldn’t be judged too harshly, but I’ll be interested to see what price the next ‘episode’ retails at. The adventure genre may seem like an older choice, for a new game franchise, but I believe it’s perfect for Doctor Who. Until someone creates the MMORPG!
