Dutch Doctor Who on Demand

Doctor Who and Torchwood are among the catalogue of shows coming to SCI FI On Demand, a new element to Dutch cable TV supplier Ziggo in the Netherlands.

WordScreen.com reports that the hit British series will air alongside Star Trek: The Next Generation, Strange, Dexter, Flashpoint, The Wire and UK detective drama Vincent which starred Ray Winstone, as part of a deal with NBC Universal, owners of the Sci Fi Channel.

Compared to the UK’s 73% (as of 2008), in the Netherlands digital TV is available to around 58 % of Dutch households. Naturally with digital additional content is available as networks go for quantity over quality, so it’s a good sign that Ziggo are opting for such a strong package of shows.

John Burnett, the managing director for Benelux at NBC Universal, said, “We look forward to broadening the viewing experience by giving our existing SCI FI and 13th Street subscribers the flexibility to watch our new on-demand service, enabling them to watch exactly what they want, when they want.”
