Old Young Face

It was often rumoured before Matt Smith’s announcement – based purely on new Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat’s previous observations – but now we have confirmation in the latest edition of Radio Times…

With a bit of photo coverage of the new Eleventh Doctor (currently shooting in Puzzlewood, Gloucestershire) and words to accompany (catch some here if you’ve got really good eyesight and are too skint for the RT) including those of respected Doctor Who fan, writer and actor Mark Gatiss, who confirms that Moffat’s intention was that he…

“really, really wanted to go older [for the new Time Lord] – but the right man walked through the door”. He said of Smith: “In a perfect Doctor Who way he has an old, young face. He’s 26 but he feels properly professorial.”

Let’s not wonder who we would have got if Smith had opted not to take the gig or the audition – instead we can look forward to 12 months of water, filming, fear, filming, Master, filming, regeneration, trailer, more filming and the launch of the Steven Moffat/Matt Smith era of Doctor Who!
