A Night In Cannes

Future Doctor Who Matt Smith isn’t the only British actor in Cannes this week, and TOgether isn’t the only british movie in contention for an award.

As such our shade-wearing intrepid future Time Lord is among friends, in particular Harry Treadaway who stars in Fish Tank, a feature-length drama that also stars Michael Fassbender (Hex, Murphy’s Law, 300) that is interestingly directed by Andrea Arnold, former kids TV presenter from the 1980s Saturday morning show Number 73.

So what have Smith and his mate from Lamda been getting up to?

I’m staying in a flat just off the Croisette with my best friend, Matt Smith… We’re calling around all our friends out here to see where the parties are: we must get on a boat. I’ve just got to get on a boat this year: third time lucky. If in doubt, we’ll pirate a yacht.

On Wednesday evening the cast and crew of Fish Tank meet up for drinks and pizza. At 2am, Andrea and I have a light-sabre fight on the Croisette. There’s so much weird stuff going on here, it didn’t draw much attention. Then Matt and I went for a stroll along the beach with a harmonica and guitar and wrote a little song. We got to bed at 3.30am.

Now that ladies and gentlemen is what Matt Smith meant this week when he described Cannes as “rock and roll”…
