Tennant’s Hamlet – Event of the Year!

Yet another plaudit heaped upon David Tennant is the result of the WhatsOnStage.com Theatregoers Choice Awards, which sees the Stratford-upon-Avon run of Hamlet declared Theatre Event of the Year!

Lining up alongside such names as Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Izzard, Ray Davies of The Kinks, Josh Hartnett, and at an awards ceremony co-hosted by current Eighth Doctor companion Sheridan Smith, Tennant’s Hamlet was always likely to appear in such illustrious company.

…Two RSC triumphs come care of Doctor Who star David Tennant, whose return to the stage in Hamlet was declared Theatre Event of the Year; Hamlet, directed by RSC chief associate Gregory Doran, has also won Best Regional Production for its Stratford-upon-Avon run.

The London run of Hamlet was inelligible for the prize; regardless, across both venues it was a record-breaking run that saw the Bard’s work appreciated by the masses in a manner that probably hasn’t been seen since the 17th century.
