Matt Smith: Success is in the Hair

Typically, the press cannot get enough of Doctor Who, and just when we thought we were going to get quiet year, the papers have two of them to talk about!

Matt Smith’s rise to the helm of the TARDIS has been largely attributed to his audition – however Party Animals co-star Andrew Buchan reckons it is pretty much down to Smith’s hair.

"It’s a sublime bit of casting. He’s got that huge hair, a twinkle in his eye – Matt’s the king of geek chic. He is possibly going to be one of the best Doctors we’ve ever had."

Party Animals itself was a great piece of work, with good scripts and a special atmosphere – some commentators compared it favourably to 1990s drama This Life (however moments in that show are painfully slow now). Alongside Matt Smith and Andrew Buchan, Party Animals featured Andrea Riseborough and Shelley Conn.

"For our part, we all clicked and shared a massive enthusiasm for making the show the best it could be. We were a quality group of friends working on excellent scripts, and that meant we all looked forward to work every day. Hopefully that enthusiasm came over in our performances."
