Gina Bellman Touted

Former star of Steven Moffat’s Coupling Gina Bellman has been touted by one New Zealand source as a potential companion in the next full series of Doctor Who.

Bellman, who first came to prominence in Dennis Potter’s 1989 serial Blackeyes, is originally from New Zealand but has starred in a succession of plays and series on UK television, in particular Coupling, Jekyll and the soon to be aired Leverage.

She’s a talented actress, and having worked with Steven Moffatt in the past I wouldn’t be surprised to see her sharing a screen with 11th Doctor Who Matt Smith.

Other names suggested for the next permanent companion include EastEnders and The Bionic Woman‘s Michelle Ryan (who also appeared in Jekyll and recently starred in BBC One’s Merlin) and the lovely Carey Mulligan – Sally Sparrow of Blink.

Of course, The Grand Moff might just do something crazy like cast a virtual unknown… eh, Matt?
