Moff Replaces Davies at Edinburgh

The recent announcement that Russell T Davies had withdrawn from giving a masterclass at the Edinburgh festival has been tempered by news that Steven Moffat will replace him!

Having accepted the role as showrunner for season 31 onwards, and picked up a third HUGO award – leaving himself desperately searching for a carpenter to build a new fire surround – Moffat has now stepped into the breach at the forthcoming Edinburgh Film & Television Festival, which upon news of RTD’s appearance was accepting entrance from Doctor Who fans or members of the public but charging a £500 three-day pass.

Whether or not this "deal" is still available isn’t yet clear. When announced, Davies’ appearance was reported to be chaired by Heat magazine’s TV editor Boyd Hilton (see "Related Stories" on the left). Later on, press reports referred to it as a "masterclass". However:

Moffat will now take on Davies’ 2pm slot at the festival on Saturday August 23, although instead of giving a masterclass he will be interviewed by Heat magazine’s TV editor Boyd Hilton.

Which kind of suggests that a Grand Moff appearance has been on the cards for a long time at this event…
