John Barrowman Does Tyneside

Announced just days before Dimensions 2007, I initially thought that the Captain Jack actor would be making a surprise appearance at the North East’s only Doctor Who convention this year – but in fact it turns out that John Barrowman will be on stage in Gateshead next April.

This stage appearance at Gateshead Sage on April 11th is of course part of a tour to promote his new album Another Side, which is released on Monday (November 12).

Tickets, priced £27.50, go on sale on this Friday (November 9) from (0871) 2200 260 or www.gigsandtours.com.

Barrowman – star of Doctor Who and Torchwood – has also starred in many top West End productions, including Anything Goes, Miss Saigon, Beauty & The Beast, Grease! and The Phantom Of The Opera, as well as appearing on TV shows Dancing on Ice and Any Dream Will Do.

He said: “I see myself being very different from the average singer. I have released records before, but this is my first for a mainstream audience.

“But I do want to make it absolutely clear here and now: I am not trying to be a pop star. I’m just trying to make a high-quality album full of songs that I hope people would want to hear me sing.

“For those who only maybe know me from television, I’d like them to discover another side of me.”

Looks set to be a big tour for John, and great date for fans of musical theatre…
