Who in The Cavern 2
I’ve never been to Liverpool, and after my disappointment with Dimensions 2006 I expected never to go to a Doctor Who convention/event ever again… however it looks as though site designer (as well as DVD cover/packaging guru…) Anthony Dry and myself will be attending this year’s Who in The Cavern 2.
But what’s it all about? Well basically it takes two legendary British cultural icons from the 1960s – the Beatles and Doctor Who – and thrusts them together. Athough not quite as much as I originally thought, according to the press release below (thanks Erica Egerton). I don’t think there will be any renditions of “Revolution 9″ from Terrance Dicks, for instance…
A one day celebration of Doctor Who in the heart of Liverpool’s Beatles Quarter, Who in The Cavern 2 will feature some fabulous guests including the Sixth Doctor Colin Baker and classic Doctor Who companions Sophie Aldred and Anneke Wills. Anneke, who played Doctor Who’s first glamour girl Polly, alongside William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton, can’t wait for Who In The Cavern – “I’ve never been to Liverpool, and I love Doctor Who events so I’m really excited about this! – the magic of Doctor Who and The Beatles in one day – can’t wait!”
Also present will be Terrance Dicks – who is considered by many to be an elder statesman of Doctor Who – his involvement with the show started in the late 1960s and continues to this day. Terrance, along with producer Barry Letts was responsible for the direction of the show in the early 1970s, shaping Jon Pertwee’s classic era, has written many of Doctor Who’s classic stories, and his latest Doctor Who novel is due for release this March.
Organiser Erica Egerton says that this year’s event will have lots to offer the discerning Doctor Who fan. “We have a display of genuine props, lots of merchandise, some great guests and a few surprises – and the whole day held together by the hilarious Scottish comedian, Charlie Ross.”
Who in The Cavern 2 is a great day out for Doctor Who fans of all ages – an informal and fun event aimed at celebrating the magic that is Doctor Who.
Tickets are on sale at £25 each – fantastic value for a great day – and are available from the website – www.whointhecavern.co.uk – or direct from The Cavern Club.
“Last year’s event sold out, so we recommend getting tickets sooner rather than later” says Erica Egerton. “This is going to be a great day……..I’m determined to make sure that everyone has a great time that they will remember for years to come!”
