The Doctor returns to Australia a week on Saturday, and the Sydney Morning Herald features a three-page article on the new series starring David Tennant.

The Australian run begins with The Christmas Invasion 7.30pm on ABC on July 8th, but what is notable in this article is this quote from David Tennant:

Tennant says he agreed to take the role because of the pedigree of the creative team behind the revival of the series – notably, writer-producer Russell T. Davies (Queer as Folk) and writers Steven Moffatt (Coupling), Mark Gatiss (The League of Gentlemen) and Toby Whithouse (Hotel Babylon). “They’re the best writers you could possibly want and if the scripts are good, then the battle is half won already,” he says.

Meanwhile coverage of the animated reconstruction of The Invasion has reached global proportions, with reports in places as diverse as Washington and North Korea. I’m curious to know what the North Koreans make of Doctor Who. Incidentally there was also coverage in the Manchester Evening News.

Billie Piper’s name has been thrown into the mix for a couple of casting calls, notably in relation to a the starring role in “Cabaret”, reports the comedy fans website Chortle. Curiously Eddie Izzard is top of the list to play Sally Bowles…

According to DWAS, the BBC Shop in Norwich reports issues with the DVD release of Inferno. Some have been issued to that outlet with duplicate disc ones instead of disc two, so if you have purchased Inferno, perhaps as a present, its recommended that you check your copy as it is not yet known if this is a widespread problem.

Doctor Who returns to the airwaves next week in the UK, five days before it finishes! BBC3 are repeating Series 2 from next Monday 3 July reports the Official Doctor Who site, beginning with New Earth and Tooth and Claw at 7pm and 7.45pm respectively. You may or may not also know that Billie Piper appears on the front cover of the Radio Times (yet again) this week. She’s also interviewed in the listings magazine – the BBC’s Official site says:

In this week’s edition of the magazine (available from today), Billie discusses the past two years of time travelling adventure. She also talks about her new job – an adaptation of Philip Pulman’s novel The Ruby in the Smoke – and her new co-star.

“I’m working with Julie Walters – she has no idea what she means to me, and I’m too embarrassed to tell her, which is stupid because she’s so normal.”

Billie also goes on to confirm that the decision to leave Doctor Who was taken a year ago, but that it remained secret until recently: “The longer I stayed the more scared I’d be of leaving because it’s so comfortable and nice.”

Finally, Doctor Who Online has a special guest in the Ask & answer section of their forum – none other than Eighth Doctor Paul McGann! If you have anything you want to ask the star of the TV Movie and the Big Finish Eighth Doctor adventures, then log into the DWO forum and post your question!
