Awards News & Official Site Updates

The information vacuum has been filled a little by a few updates to the BBC’s Official Doctor Who site.

First up, there is the news that both the Ninth and Tenth Doctor actors, Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, are nominated in the Best Actor Category of the Broadcasting Press Guild Programme Awards. Those nominations for David Tennant include his performances in Doctor Who so far, as well as his turns as Casanova and in ITV’s Secret Smile.

You can read more about these awards at C21.net, which also include nominations in the Writer’s Award category for Russell T Davies and for Billie Piper in the Best Actress category.

There’s also news of the cover art for the forthcoming audiobook The Dalek Conquests, as well as a few words from he release’s narrator, Nick Briggs.

Finally from the Official Doctor Who site, news of Totally Doctor Who, the upcoming CBBC magazine show. They want young Doctor Who fans to get involved by sending in questions, photos, videos, stories and anything really, and are also recruiting 8 cadets for the “Companion Academy”. New Torchwood and The Unquiet Dead actress Eve Myles is mentioned in a few organs as a strong candidate to replace Billie Piper as the Doctor’s companion, so says The Daily Record:

BEEB bosses have lined up the sexy new replacement for Billie Piper when she quits Doctor Who for a career in the movies.

Rising star Eve Myles, 27, is being tipped as the new sidekick for the Timelord, played by Scots actor David Tennant.

Well, you won’t find us saying no…

icwales.co.uk have run a feature on the seminal BBC drama Our Friends in the North which of course starred Christopher Eccleston and alleged next James Bond Daniel Craig. If you haven’t any idea what I’m talking about read the article, the serial is definitely worth watching and you can catch it on BBC4.

And finally Noel Clarke is interviewed at the Future Movies website, apparently at last month’s Gallifrey One convention. There’s a focus on his movie “Kidulthood” – Noel’s definitely an interesting subject to interview, and always has a lot to say…

Oh, and the boiler here at Kasterborous Towers is now nice and hot! It seems a the collection of Brian Terranova’s Daleks had colonised the boiler room and were attempting to sabotage our operations… luckily The Plumber was on hand to save us!
