Big Finish New Writer
Big Finish have announced the winner of their recent competition to find a new writer for their series of Doctor Who audio adventures!
With a range of series and writers such as Marc Platt (Ghost Light), Rob Shearman (Dalek) and many more contributing regularly to them, you would think that Big Finish had their hands full already – but no! They decided to look for a new writer, and opened a competition earlier this year in order to find a new writer.
Big Finish were apparently overwhelmed with entries, leading to script editor Alan Barnes spending a few months reading through many entries (read my attempt here) and eventually picked a story – to be recorded by Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton as the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa – by Rick Briggs (no relation).
‘It’s a great story,’ confirms exec producer Nick Briggs. ‘It leapt out at me straight away when Alan showed it to me along with the other finalists. Of course, the slightly embarrassing thing is that he’s got the same surname as me! I thought, Oh no, no one’s going to believe that he’s not a relative of mine. But honestly, he isn’t… and we couldn’t not pick him just because he’s got the same surname as me! That would have been terribly unfair.
Well done to Rick – can’t wait to hear it!

Ahh, my genius was too much for them.
Oh well.
Of course Rick Briggs is probably brilliant. Good on him!
Disappointed I didn’t win. Maybe if I’d written a story and submitted it I’d have stood more of a chance?
Well done Rick!
