The 21st Century is where it all changes. Never have more apt words been spoken. In the world of Doctor Who and Torchwood, this means alien invasions and sightings becoming more commonplace.

But in reality it means more and more technological advances. Broadband internet, HD televisions, iPads, iPhones and Blu Ray films are all part of the everyday world replacing old technology that is deemed to slow and to unclear to make use of.

But what’s that you say? You don’t have an HD television or a Blu-ray player? Well then, what do you enjoy your digital viewings of Doctor Who on? Oh, a standard television. Well yes, we suppose that’s just as fun.

But if you’ve been looking to upgrade to HD TV’s and Blu-ray players but haven’t had the time or the motivation (don’t worry, you’re not alone) now might be the time to head over to the Doctor Who official Facebook page (via your superfast broadband connection. What’s that? You don’t have one? But how do you visit various Doctor Who websites in super fast time? Oh, 56K dial up. Well that’s very…nice) and click the “like” button followed by a few details.

This will automatically enter you in to the competition the page is holding where you could win not only a copy of Doctor Who: The Complete 6th Series (limited edition version) and The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe on shiny Blu-ray but you’ll also get a 32 inch HD television to watch them on as well! One competition, one chance and you could be updated for modern day home entertainment via the click of a button!

Someone has to win so there’s every chance that the lucky person could be you! Visit the official Facebook page www.facebook.com/DoctorWho?sk=app_111113792337055, “like” the page and then leave your details

Good luck to everybody that enters!

In other words, it’s Doctor Who doing what it does best; taking established sci-fi ideas, giving them a spin through some of the finest creative minds television has to offer (in this case the untouchable pairing of Hinchcliffe and Holmes) and turning them into something bold, entertaining and altogether more exciting.

Also, it has a rather rubbish talking plant…yeah.

So to celebrate this Forbidden Planet have germinated this exclusive The Seeds of Doom 1976 Setto forever remind us of the dangers of letting your garden grow.

You may wonder whether Underground Toys (who’ve been busy tweeting images of the set) just emulated the production team and simply sprayed an Axos figure green.

However you’d be wrong, as the Krynoid is quite an impressive creature – coming as he does with two seed pods fresh from the Antarctic, one open and one closed – more than making up for the familiarity of the Fourth Doctor’s look – although he does come ready to buck some swash with a nifty cutlass accessory.

Sorting out the Krynoids from the weeds the exclusive The Seeds of Doom 1976 set is set to grow exponentially and devour Forbidden Planet‘s warehouse on the April 2nd for £24.99

On what kind of job could you conceivably spend your time recording one of the most eagerly anticipated releases of 2012 with Doctor Who royalty – taking tea breaks to chat about life, the universe and Doctor Who lore – and then head off for a pub lunch with Professor Richard Dawkins where you end up discussing just what sound does a Giraffe make?

Well if you’re Neil Gardner, that was the weekend that Shada – the 2012 Gareth Roberts (Closing Time) adaptation of Douglas Adams’ (City of Death) ‘lost’ serial – was recorded for an audiobook release and he’s been kind enough to share his experiences producing this tale with Regent Times.

Ever the fan boy Neil can’t help but get excited at the prospect of both making his mark on Doctor Who history and recording with the one and only Lady Romana herself, Lalla Ward:

“The next email arrived from AudioGO and you had to pick my jaw up off the floor. The reader was going to be, none other than the Lady Romana herself… LALLA WARD! Aaarggh, uurgh, oooooh. Lalla Ward… alongside Lis Sladen, she was MY companion, and even more exciting she was the companion of MY Doctor. Well, blimey. This job was turning out to be better and better.”

Neil makes a fabulous guide for this trip into deepest, darkest Oxfordshire and the rest of the blog is well worth reading

Narrated by Lalla Ward, Shada, will also feature music by Simon Power as well as the voice of K-9 himself John Leeson and is set for release on March 15th – and you can order order from Amazon now for just £10.32!

A thought-provoking attempt at creating Doctor Who’s first truly peaceful, albeit misguided, alien race in a multifaceted mystery? Or slower than coastal erosion storytelling that ludicrously uses sash swapping as a key twist in the narrative?

You decide!

Helping you make that decision are some fantastic extras including:

• Commentary
• Vision On – What exactly does a Vision Mixer do?
• Secret Voices of the Sense-Sphere – Clive Doig reveals the origins of the eerie Sensorite voices.
• Photo Gallery
• Coming Soon Trailer
• Radio Times Listings
• Production Subtitles
• Programme Subtitles
• Digitally Remastered Picture and Sound Quality

Worthy of the cost all by itself is Looking for Peter – fronted by the witty amicable Toby Hadoke (Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf) this touching, illuminating documentary goes in search of the enigmatic Peter R Newman – writer of The Sensorites – who vanished from writing altogether (this sole credit for Doctor Who is his last as a television writer) and remained in obscurity up until his death – which due to his withdrawal from public life couldn’t even be verified down to a year.

It says something about the warmth and compassion of this documentary that by its conclusion you could very well be a little misty eyed.

The Sensorites is in shops now, with an RRP of £20.42. However you can save money by shopping at Amazon where you will find the DVD for a super-low £12.99!

If you’re a Sony Playstation 3 or PS Vita owner and you’re a Doctor Who fan then this March will be very exciting for you indeed!

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will be released on these platforms and the first game play trailer is out there for you to enjoy. Starring Matt Smith and Alex Kingston as the Doctor and River Song respectively, The Eternity Clock sees our favourite Time Lord plus the child of the TARDIS hook up in order to take on the forces of the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Silurians and the Silence all of whom seem to be after this mysterious clock. That is if it is indeed a clock…

The games’ Executive Producer Simon Harris has just released his second blog on The Eternity Clock’s development, giving fascinating facts about the behind the scenes production such as amassing some of the Doctor’s greatest enemies as well as some of the updates that they’ve received for this very unique video games experience.

The Eternity Clock looks like an exciting games that takes the player from the ruins of London to the bowels of a Dalek ship. From the look of the trailer, it will be a 3D side scrolling adventure with some real time events (pressing certain buttons at certain times to achieve goals) but then again, we could well be wrong.

Whatever it may end up being, the clock has started to tick and the Doctor and River are bound to end up in trouble…

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will be released on Playstation 3 and PS Vita in March 2012; a PC release will follow later.

Is this the one?

Has the Doctor Who game duck finally been broken?

BBC Worldwide has announced today that the console game Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will launch globally, initially on PS3 and PS Vita via the PlayStation Network in March 2012 with a PC version due shortly after.

The first game-play trailer below showcases the monsters in the game…

Gameplay pits players against the most feared monsters from the Doctor Who Universe – the Cybermen, Daleks, Silurians and The Silence. At present early rumours of the game being an MMO look tenuous, but it certainly appears to move away from the pattern seen recently across various platforms in favour of a more action-based premise.

In the game players will be able to take control of both the Doctor and River Song (voiced by Matt Smith and Alex Kingston) to unravel the mystery of The Eternity Clock in March 2012. The clock is ticking…

Intercepting our transmat beam and forcing a time ring into our mitts Forbidden Planet have tasked us with travelling through time to a point in our past where we blew the £49.99 we could have spent on this fantastic 8” Doctor Who Masterpiece Collection Dalek: Genesis of the Daleks model – saving ourselves from a collectible Dalek free existence.

But if we go back in time and stop ourselves or at least hinder our eventual spending then are we no better than they? Casting money away so freely.

However out of this evil something good must surely come and indeed it does – the model cast from the original Genesis of the Daleks designs looks amazing – and represents yet another serious collectible piece of Doctor Who lore from Titan Merchandise.

The Doctor Who Masterpiece Collection Dalek: Genesis of the Daleks is available to pre-order now before it rises up against its creator and destroys the Forbidden Planet Warehouse on the 30th April.

Remember those chaps who made the freakishly lifelike Maxi Collector’s busts of various Doctors and so forth? Well, they’re back, and this time they’re bringing a wonderful Time Lord whom you may remember from Time Crash and three whole seasons of Classic Who.

The new addition to the Doctor Who Masterpiece Collection from Titan is a bust of the Fifth Doctor (that looks eerily like it’s made of cake frosting or plasticine). Now you can take home a (nowhere near to) scale model of everybody’s favourite fifth incarnation of the Doctor (1981-1984).

Cake frosting features aside, it really is quite stylish and rather well-rendered! For those with a high level of disposable income and a love of Classic Who to match, this looks like it will be the perfect piece for your mantlepiece!

The piece can be pre-ordered from ForbiddenPlanet in the UK for £49.99 (£10 less than the RRP.
