The Worlds of Doctor Who – A Must Have for Big Finish Fans!
Big Finish has produced some fairly smart products over the years, and indeed the packaging on the physical CD products has been top notch. But it’s a digital world now; the excitement of opening a brand new album has been replaced (for the most part) by the excitement of near instant gratification. Of course, Big Finish has embraced this and offers high quality downloads of their stories as well as the physical product. But occasionally, they offer something so tempting that it makes the wait for the physical media so worth it. This is one of those times!
Big Finish has announced the preorder availability for Doctor Who: The Worlds of Doctor Who, a stunning four part story that unites the audio spin off worlds of Jago and Litefoot, Counter-Measures, the UNIT Vault, and Gallifrey! It also features a star studded cast: Colin Baker, Louise Jameson, Lalla Ward, Richard Franklin, Christopher Benjamin, Trevor Baxter, Pamela Salem, Karen Gledhill, Daphne Ashbrook, Yee Jee Tso, Simon Williams, Sinead Keenan, Rory Keenan, and Jamie Glover as the mysterious Mr. Rees. The action begins with Jago and Litefoot in Mind Games, followed by the Counter-Measures cast in The Reesinger Process, and Captain Yates and UNIT Vault in The Screaming Skull, and rounding out with the Sixth Doctor, Leela, Romana, and Yates in Second Sight. The action follows the “destructive rise” of Mr. Rees, through the different settings of these popular Doctor Who audio spinoffs.
I promised some temptation in my opening, didn’t I? Well, the story is tantalizing enough as it stands, but Big Finish is pulling all stops and offering a Limited Collector’s Edition if you order the CD of the audio! It comes in a hardback book featuring in studio photography by Tony Whitmore, original artwork by Tom Webster, a fifth disc with cast interviews, and (perhaps the best bit) commissioned written pieces from Colin Baker, Trevor Baxter, Karen Gledhill, Daphne Ashbrook, and Yee Jee Tso on their experiences bringing their respective characters to life. Hard to pass up a spread like this! It’s up for preorder now and is expected in October.
