Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular returns!

Dancing Daleks, Ice Buckets, Doctor Who Porn & More!

Sharper than Novice Hame’s front teeth, bigger than Boe’s face, and more witty than Dorium Moldovar at an insterstellar cocktail party… it’s the Kasterborous News Blast!  In today’s Blast of news, it’s 12 times the excitement as:  smart people love Doctor Who, a naughty parody for the Doctor turns up, Amy Pond gets frozen, the USA magazines go Who-wild, and Clara says goodbye (again)?  So grab my hand, take a deep breath, don’t blink… and LISTEN!

The Rory Williams Death Record Still Stands… For Now

Will she go or will she stay?  And if she does stay, will present-day Clara survive Series 8?  The speculation and rumors continue to percolate around Jenna Coleman’s Doctor Who future.  A few weeks ago, she’s quoted as saying “I’m enjoying the storytelling and the new relationship with the Doctor so… as long as you keep enjoying it, I think that’s the important thing.”

Writer Paul Jones of the Radio Times points out that companions don’t last more than a series or two, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that she’s may be “considering her exit strategy.”  Let’s hope she thinks things through for a little while longer…

Who Gets Covered!

In the last few weeks, Doctor Who (Peter Capaldi, to be specific) has made the covers of both Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide in the USA.  The more recent is TV Guide, which also features a five-page article (if you count a two-page photo spread of Capaldi in the TARDIS) on the upcoming series.

Small side articles include looks at guest stars (like Keeley Hawes), synopses of the first three episodes, and a quick introduction to “The New Companion” Samuel Anderson (Danny Pink).

I’ve Never Wanted To Be A Bucket So Badly In All My Life

Call them Ice Warriors:  The Internet craze that everyone is talking about, at least for the next day or two, is the phenomenon of the “ice bucket challenge”.  It all started as a unique way to raise money for ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease in the USA) by having people get buckets of cold water dumped on their heads.  This soon ballooned into celebrity after celebrity being doused in icy water on Youtube and other internet sites.  Recently, Matt Smith (the Eleventh Doctor) accepted the challenge and then put forth a challenge of his own to former companion (and real-life best bud), Karen Gillan!

If (and when) she accepts, that is one video that may cause YouTube to melt down.

On a side note, this is surely the Ice Bucket Challenge to end them all:

EX-EX-EX-TERMINATE!

Are you ready to see the Doctor playing doctor?  Well, the makers of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Game of Thrones porn parodies have turned their naughty attention to our favorite Time Lord and produced a Doctor Who XXX video.  According to a SFW article on Giant Freakin Robot, it features an Eleventh Doctor-ish fellow with versions of River Song (or a frizzy-haired likeness thereof), Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, and Amy Pond.  What, no Captain Jack Harkness!?

Sigh.  At least something like this shows just how popular Doctor Who has become… I guess.

Give Me A Mo’ To Smarten Meself Up A Bit

In an article on the ABC Southern Queensland page, an Australian professor of history says that he loves Doctor Who… and he’s not the only academically-minded person who does.  Dr. Marcus Harmes says, “There’s a surprisingly large number of academics who write books and articles and do conference presentations on Doctor Who”.

He said that the show does a good job of mixing facts with fun:  “[The makers of Doctor Who] aren’t making claims for accuracy. They have fun with the sources they are using. It is a serious show, but the writers are very inventive… It’s tremendous fun to watch and spot the references. Sometimes they are clever and sometimes very obvious.”

Peter Davison Heads Back Down Under

The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular, a spin-off of the popular Proms concerts, will be returning to New Zealand in February 2015.  Also returning to host the show (featuring music by Murray Gold and conducted by Ben Foster) will be Fifth Doctor Peter Davison!

Says Davison: ”I had a fantastic time on the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular Tour in Australia and New Zealand earlier this year… and I can’t wait to join you again with this exciting new show.”  The 2015 Spectacular will also feature appearances by several of the Doctor’s foes, such as the Cybermen, Weeping Angels, and dancing Daleks.

Next year’s show will also be the first to include music from Peter Capaldi’s Series 8 and will be held on February 15, 2015!

Ohh! Can You Smell Chips?

And finally, the Beyond the Marquee webpage has a feature on Lindalee Rose visiting a Doctor Who-themed restaurant outside of New York City.  For those who don’t know, Lindalee is the primary school Lois Lane of the Who convention set.  Name a Who actor, and Lindalee has probably interviewed them in a Youtube video.  For this assignment, she went to The Pandorica, a restaurant founded by London-born Shirley Hot.  The restaurant has TARDIS menus, blue furniture, and Van Gogh “Exploding TARDIS” artwork.  It has also become a very popular destination for Doctor Who fans.  Sounds good!  Let’s just hope her chips aren’t made by the Krillitanes!

Well, that’s it for today’s News Blast!

About

Drew has been a fan of Doctor Who ever since he flipped through the channels late one night and saw a girl blowing up an army of funny robot men with nothing but a slingshot and some old coins. He currently lives somewhere in the woods of Missouri with his beautiful wife Barbara.
