Doctor Who Series 8 Filming Continues In Cardiff

The cast and crew of Doctor Who were out and about in Cardiff yesterday, filming at one of Cardiff University’s newest and most prestigious academic buildings.

The Haydn Ellis Building, named for the late deputy vice chancellor of the university, has also been used as a location for Who executive producer Steven Mofffat’s other popular show, Sherlock.

The Sherlock production made use of the lab facilities as well as being transformed into a Central London hospital.

While filming, Peter Capaldi, the man set to take over as the Twelfth Doctor, stopped and posed with fans on set.

Note the dark shirt Capaldi is seen wearing, a slight deviation from the promotional image that was released of his Twelfth Doctor’s costume.

BONUS:
Twitter user @ryanfarr caught a few more snaps of Capaldi and Jenna Coleman filming and interacting with fans in the Cardiff University area as well as a shot of a monster! Expand the spoiler button below if you want to check it out.

About the Author

Rebecca is new to the Who world, having only recently watched the entire new series in a span of 8 days. She is no stranger to sci-fi though, being a life long Trekkie and has vague memories of seeing the 4th Doctor on US television as a child. When not watching, reading, blogging, or talking about Doctor Who, she is a fan of pop culture and loves movies and books so much she has to keep a list of both so she doesn't forget any of them. She also likes to make attempts at various forms of art including photography and painting. Rebecca is currently working her way through as many classic serials and as many books related to the show that she can find and wishes she could have been with the Doctor and Amy when they met Van Gogh.

I really like the dark shirt. I think it blends much better with rest of the outfit.

  2. Howard Railton says:

    Capaldi looks GOOOOD!

Spoiler below ref the hidden picture….!

The monster looks a bit like a certain famous monsters ‘pet’ from the Hartnell era, Only a little better realised…

  4. DonnaM says:

The monster looks like something from the Doctor Who of my 1970s childhood, and for me that can only be a good thing! There are some fabulous pics around from recent filming. Peter and Jenna look great.

    • Simon Magellan says:

They certainly look from the photos to be enjoying each other’s company – which can only be good for the series

Aren’t the British Press wonderful? Just reading an online story that says PC was spotted with a head injury on set after filming climbing a tree. The story makes it absolutely clear that this turned out to be make up -

but the photos bear captions stating “Capaldi was filming before the incident occurred” and “he continued after medical treatment”.

    It just beggars belief sometimes.

    • DonnaM says:

I wouldn’t mind but the moment I saw the picture I thought “obviously not real”. The piece was probably written and proofread (if they even bother with that any more, and I sometimes doubt it) by numpties who can’t cope with the thought of a 55-year-old man clambering about in a tree!

Nice photo’s and I like the new shirt. but I thought capaldi looked a bit gaunt on a few, had he been ill ?
