Would You Watch Colin Baker in Coronation Street?

Colin Baker is the marmite of Time Lords, you either love him or you hate him it seems. Personally I love him, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I love both Twin Dilemma and Timelash, and it seems there are many more who still hold a candle for the great man  as it has been found in a poll asking if Colin should appear in long running brit soap Coronation Street.

In an interview Sixy commented that while he loves being the Doctor, landing a role in Wetherfied would be the icing on the cake.

I grew up in the area [Rochdale] and I think I would fit in, I could play Fred Elliot’s long lost brother…

Corrie does have a long history of its stars crossing paths with Doctor Who dating back almost to the shows beginnings, Helen Worth best known as Corrie‘s Gail Platt featured in the Pertwee adventure Colony in Space, Nigel Havers who appeared in Big Finish’s Eighth Doctor story No More Lies and in Sarah Jane Adventures in the brilliant two parter ‘The Wedding of Sarah Jane’ also spent time on the famous Manchester cobbles, as has The Great Intelligence himself, Sir Ian McKellen to name but a few so Colin would be in fine and distinguished Doctor Who alumni company.

The poll currently stands at a staggering 87.6% in favour of Colin landing a role, but what do you think about it, do you think it would be a good move, are you against it purely on the grounds that the demands would drag him away from the convention circuit? Do you have no idea what Coronation Street is and would just like some answers. Let us hear what you have to say about it all.

  1. Can’t believe you didn’t mention William Russell’s 1992 run, albeit brief, as Rita’s second husband Ted Sullivan. http://coronationstreet.wikia.com/wiki/Ted_Sullivan

Marco Polo featured Rita’s fiance Alan Bradley (Mark Eden) together with her husband William Russell. Mission to the Unknown featured her fiancé Benny Lewis together with her fiancé Colin Grimshaw (Edward de Souza). Her engagements are the key to the missing episodes. She was also proposed to by Alf Roberts (Bryan Mosley) who appeared in The Daleks’ Masterplan.

(Benny Lewis was played by Jeremy Young)

    • I think we might have had to turn it into a feature if we’d covered every single connection…

      …which isn’t a bad idea ;-)

I have always liked the Sixth Doctor and part of me likes his costume. Not keen on Twin Dilemma but I do like Timelash. If Colin landed a roll in Corrie good for him, he is a very good actor, but I gave up Corrie years ago.
