NZ Mint Releases Doctor Who Monsters

If you were one of the fine folk lucky enough to get your mitts on the commemorative gold or silver coins released for the 50th anniversary last year, or the equally impressive 11 Doctors collection then the news that this month sees the release of the first in a new set of commemorative coins from New Zealand Mint may be of interest to you… because this time, it’s the turn of the bad guys.

Following on from the success of last year’s collections, the NZ Mint has created the Monsters Collection and first out of the gate are the Daleks. A limited number of 5,000 Dalek coins are now on sale on the NZ Mint website, and they will be closely followed by the Weeping Angels, the Cybermen, the Silurians and the Sontarans.

The selection of enemies was chosen by an online vote and according to New Zealand Mint Chief Executive, Simon Harding, they won’t be around for long as they have already had masses of interest and pre-orders for the collection.

So what do you think, worth grabbing early? Will you be getting the full set? Are you disappointed at the choice of villains on offer (personally I would have liked to see the Master in there). Speak to us below and share your two cents (see what I did there… I’ll get my coat).
