Farscape’s Virginia Hey Joins Tom Baker In White Ghosts

Tom Baker seems to be enjoying his stint revisiting his greatest role with audio producers Big Finish. It may have taken some doing to persuade him to appear as the Fourth Doctor again but now there’s no stopping him, and currently we’re into his third series of adventures with another batch promised next year and more treats to come before then.

Latest snaps from Big Finish show Tom (he likes his braces doesn’t he?) with co-star Farscape’s Virginia Hey in latest release White Ghosts, the second release of the current run. Next month we can look forward to The Crooked Man with co-stars including Neil Stuke, Sarah Smart and Lizzie Roper. Series three sees Tom paired up once again with Louise Jameson as Leela, warrior of the Sevateem.

As if that wasn’t enough to be going on with, September will see the release of the eagerly awaited Phillip Hinchcliffe Presents box set with the classic era producer dreaming up some hopefully truly terrifying scenarios for the Doctor to tackle. Tickets are also on sale now for Big Finish Day 5, with Baker and Hinchcliffe set to appear in Slough on 3rd September.

All in all then, it’s shaping up to be a great year for Fourth Doctor fans (and who doesn’t count themselves as one of those?). Have you bought any Fourth Doctor Adventures from Big Finish? Any recommendations?

About the Author

has watched Doctor Who since those great big spiders did for Jon Pertwee, and it's way too late to stop now. When he's not at his job working for a charity in Hull he spends his time following Hull City's fortunes, listening to Bruce Springsteen and wondering why it took thirty years too long for Doctor Who action figures to come along. Favourite stories include the one with the mummies, the one with Mr Sin and the one with the Mona Lisa. Currently watching: The Time Monster - was there ever a more barking Doctor Who story?

I admit that I’m looking forward to all the new 4th Doctor stories. I love Louise Jameson as Leela, I love the idea of Hinchcliffe writing timeless stories, but I really loved the audios with Mary Tamm. And, sadly, no new ones can be made. Every one knows it’s got nothing to do with will or un will, it’s just that this wonderful actress died too soon. Luckily for us she continued working when she was already very ill. So, yes I am looking forward to new 4th Doctor stories, yes I am enjoying the fact that Tom is really getting into it. Even the fact that Tom and Lalla will be doing some things together once again, can’t surpass the moments I enjoyed with Mary (sorry Lalla and Louise, this certainly is not meant to downgrade you at all). But we’ll never get the Laan or even the Daleks back as Mary handled them. So although I am pleased Tom is back with a vengeance, I really miss this particular wonderful companion. Sorry.

  2. I ahve not yet got to ehar the audios with Mary narrating, so those would be nice. ALso, i realllly enjoyed Virgina Hey’s stint as Zaan from farscape, and the show kind of ended for me after she left. So this would be a nice treat, if I ever got my hands on it.

I recently listened to the 2012 BF subscriber bonus story, a stand-alone 4/Leela adventure called Night of the Stormcrow. Excellent stuff, claustrophobic and very much in keeping with the Hinchcliffe era.

I’m also looking forward the the reuniting of Baker and Lalla Ward in the future 5th series of Fourth Doctor adventures as well as the Gareth Roberts MA adaptations of The Romance of Crime and The English Way of Death.
