The First and Last Line of Every Doctor

Once upon a time, I was an eager and aspiring musician. In my quest for vocal dominance, I received a very important piece of advice regarding performing.

It was simply this: your audience will typically only remember the first and last song of any set you perform; thus, it is imperative that you knock both of them out of the park. I found that to be very true. It doesn’t diminish the fact that everything that happens between the first and last needs to be solid and strong, but the reality is you have two fleeting moments to gain their attention and to keep you in their minds long after the moment is over.

You can make the argument that the same can be said of the Doctor’s first and last words. A chance to captivate us from the beginning and to bring us to tears when it’s time to say goodbye. With that in mind, the folks at ComicBookMove.com have shared a pretty epic infographic that entails the first and last words of every incarnation of the Doctor to date! Yes, that even includes the War Doctor and the first words of Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor. It also includes a nice little head shot of each Doctor next to the quotes.

About the Author

“That’s bacon! Are you trying to poison me?” And from that line on, I’ve been unable to stop watching, reading, musing about the Doctor. As a recent transplant to the Whoniverse, I’ve been trying to soak up as much Who-related knowledge as possible. That journey has taken me from the Tenth Planet to the Fields of Trenzalore and gently set me at the edge of my seat for what’s next. It’s an honor to be here and I plan to bring a unique perspective. I hope you’ll enjoy the journey alongside me.

Pertwee’s and Hurt’s first lines seem to be cut off. And actually, Tom’s full first line should be “Sontarans… perverting the course of human history.”

But other than that, this is pretty cool.

  2. Lee Moone says:

McGann has the best 1st and last lines IMO. I like this, surprised its not been done before!

  3. Docnine45 says:

And Hurts Doctors first line is wrong too, as I’m watching it right now. The proper line is “Doctor no more”

  4. Sid Rat says:

Doesn’t Capaldi say something different in the Day of the Doctor?

    • Do tell…

  5. Joe Siegler says:

    4′s last was “Adric?”

    • Joe Siegler says:

That was 5′s. Never mind. :)

      • Sid rat says:

        “No SIr” (pause). “All thirteen!”

        • lee moone says:

That wasn’t Capald’s line as according to BBC subtitles it was one of the time lords seen in the war room

        • TimeChaser says:

That sounded like one of the Time Lords in the War Room and not Capaldi that said that.

  6. Chris says:

The Second Doctor’s first lines were: “Stop! Stop! Concentrate on one thing! One Thing!” Not “Slower! Slower!”

  7. Andrew Dorgomire says:

9GAG? You made a bad move. Some text from the original content has been erased. They’ve tampered with it and degraded the material just like the little frass stains they are.

    CURSES UPON THE WRETCHED 9GAG!!

  8. John Miller says:

Six’s last words were never supposed to be “Carrot juice”, and “Carrot juice” were never supposed to be his last words. I think the spin-offs should be used for Six.

  9. Pasha O says:

Nice infograhpic. Nine and Eleven’s last words are my favourite. They were both fantastic.
