Smith’s Farewell Is “emotional, joyous” Says Jenna Coleman

Jenna Coleman has looked forward to the Doctor Who Christmas special, observing that the change in leading men has taken a bit of getting used to.

Indeed, a rather wistful sounding Jenna sounds like she needs a bit of time to get used to the change:

We have a bit of a gap before we start filming the new series, so I have time to get my head around it all… This episode is very much about Matt and the 11th Doctor and Clara and… their last adventure together.

Describing the script for The Time of The Doctor as “very emotional, but also joyous”, Jenna gives a sense of just how tough it was bid Matt farewell:

Just going through the process of saying goodbye was difficult… But saying those words and saying goodbye was never going to be easy.

Jenna Coleman (who will be watching the special with her whole family after a Christmas dinner cooked by her Mum, fact fans) plays Clara in The Time of The Doctor this Christmas at 7.30pm on BBC One and 8/9c on BBC America.

About the Author

Jonathan remembers catching Tony Hughes's Doctor in BBC Schools Maths show when he was off school in 1975. This more than made up for having chickenpox. Something of an old hand by this time, he had learned from The Doctor Who Monster Book that there were other Doctors and adventures to discover - an exciting prospect for a five year old.

  1. TimeChaser says:

And now she becomes one of that elite subset of companions, the ones who are the only recognizable stars of the show until the new Doctor fully establishes himself. Too bad Liz Sladen is gone, I think she could give Jenna some good advice.
