Is Big Doctor Who Missing Episodes News About To Break?

Tonight’s Missing Believed Wiped event at the BFI Southbank - where lost episodes of Doctor Who have been screened in the past – is shrouded in mystery. No one seems to know exactly what they’re expecting to see. Mysterious, eh?

However, interesting noises are coming from the screening tonight (also unveiling a Thirty Minute Theatre recovery from 1972, Not Counting the Savages which was directed by Mike Newell and written by BS Johnson) that suggests confirmation of a haul of 10,000 film canisters – shipped to the UK by Philip Morris’ TIEA – is pending.

We say “noises” – until confirmation is forthcoming, the omnirumour remains just that. Let’s sit tight and see what happens, okay?

As soon as any new details are available, we’ll bring them to you.

Wasn’t Galaxy 4 episode 3 ‘Air Lock’ recovered in 2011?

    • Yep – that whole section is erroneous and will be gone shortly.

  2. drewboynton says:

If each canister contains at least 1 episode of Doctor Who, that’s 10,000 lost episodes found! Awesome!!!

  3. Gillian Who says:

I’m hoping that ‘Doctor Who and the Monsters of Ness’ starring David Burton is in that find :p

Amazing! The man, the legend Phil Morris strikes again! Well done Phil!

Perhaps best wait until it is confirmed before getting too excited. Haven’t we been here before with the “90 episodes have been recovered” that turned out to be 9 (good as that was). Even if missing eps have been recovered it doesn’t mean all of them – any of then even – are from DW.

My point is, even if there are no Dr Who episodes in this stash, then Phil Morris has still worked another miracle finding 10.000 film cans in a country officially said to have been ‘thoroughly checked’ by the missing episodes forum with the whole continent being classed as crossed off the list. I suppose they were behind a filing cabinet.
There are other TV gems that are missing from the archives of which Dr Who is only a small part so well done to Phil again for having the vision to actually go to the countries and see what they have and by following his hunches and not those who said,’ Leave it to the professionals’.

Also, it might episodes we already had. Still, hope is a good thing.

  6. scd says:

My guess: They’re all episodes of Rose Tyler: Earth Defence.

I will personally chuck those on the bonfire myself.
