More Guests & Photos For The Time of the Doctor!

Thanks to Radio Times, we now have a little more information on who will be a part of the Doctor Who Christmas special this year.

It seems we will get to meet another member of Clara’s family. Sheila Reid, most known for her current role on Benidorm, will play Clara’s grandmother.

James Butler will be reprising his role as Clara’s father, last seen in the The Rings of Akhaten episode earlier this year. Also look out for Tessa Peake-Jones, best known to British TV viewers as Only Fools and Horses‘ Raquel Trotter.

The episode, set to be the Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith’s last episode, will also introduce us to the next man to take the role of the Doctor: Peter Capaldi.

Smith’s Doctor will face some of his greatest foes of all time including the Cybermen, the Daleks, and the Silence, who have plagued the Doctor and his companions and want to stop him at all costs.

The Doctor Who Christmas special, titled The Time Of The Doctor, will air on Christmas Day, 25th December, at 7:30pm.

Rebecca is new to the Who world, having only recently watched the entire new series in a span of 8 days. She is no stranger to sci-fi though, being a life long Trekkie and has vague memories of seeing the 4th Doctor on US television as a child. When not watching, reading, blogging, or talking about Doctor Who, she is a fan of pop culture and loves movies and books so much she has to keep a list of both so she doesn't forget any of them. She also likes to make attempts at various forms of art including photography and painting. Rebecca is currently working her way through as many classic serials and as many books related to the show that she can find and wishes she could have been with the Doctor and Amy when they met Van Gogh.

How amazing to see a Monoid! This last outing for Matt is going to be a treat I think.

I am excited but…I really hope we get an explanation as to how the Daleks remember the Doctor after he was wiped from their memories in Asylum…and speaking of Asylum, why were we never told why Skaro still exists even though 7 destroyed it with the Hand of Omega? That said, I believe this mysterious woman whom the doctor has met previously is probably the Rani–she’s a renegade Timelady and a brilliant (if amoral) scientist, so who better to have solved the regeneration limit problem? If she were pondering her own impending limit she may well have set her sights on a solution. We also know the Timelords could bestow additional regenerations at will (see The Five Doctors), so perhaps it was she who gave them that ability then went renegade when the high council took control of her solution for themselves. Just riffing, but she seems a good fit.

I think the destruction of Skaro was in the far future. In Remembrance of the Daleks, one of the Daleks says something like; ‘Hand of Omega entering Skaro space/time zone’ when it heads for it’s sun. And the Doctor tells the Black Dalek who is stranded ‘Your a long way from home and a hundred thousand years away’ or something like that. There are two main leaders of the Daleks in the classic series. The Supreme Dalek who interacts with Davros and the static Emperor Dalek who sits in the throne room on Skaro when the Daleks have time travel capabilities. I’m sure I read somewhere that in the expanded universe Davros destroys the supreme Dalek and makes himself the Emperor and thats who we see nearly destroyed in Evil of the Daleks (the final end) but who then reveals himself as the bulbous Emperor on the bridge of the battle cruiser when the Daleks try to steal the hand of Omega.
      I think…

Hilarious to see the Monoid right after watching the deleted scenes on the An Adventure DVD!

That Matt Smith puppet has an unconvincing wig.

I think the article might be wrong about James Buller’s return. Clara’s dad was previously played by Michael Dixon. The role has probably been recast with an older actor.

And I don’t know what Benidorm is, but Sheila Reid is probably best known (around these islands of nerd) from Vengeance on Varos.

    • Well spotted David F, Cheers
