Paul McGann in Dark Eyes 2 [AUDIO]

As all of us are still reeling from the giddy excitement of seeing Paul McGann back as the Eighth Doctor on our TV screens in Night of the Doctor, Big Finish has picked the perfect moment to release the first teaser trailer for next year’s instalment of Dark Eyes 2 which seem to continue the Eighth Doctor’s inexorable involvement in the beginning of the Time War.

After formally canonising his companions on our screens by uttering their names before his final words, fans of the Dark Eyes series will be happy to know that Molly O’Sullivan, played by Ruth Bradley, will return to the role in 2014 for more adventures aboard the TARDIS. And she’s not the only familiar character to be making a return…

As well as the Eminence, a recurring villain for the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors in a Big Finish trilogy last year, the Daleks will also be making an appearance to keep the Doctor on his toes. As if that wasn’t enough, Alex Macqueen will be reprising his role as the Master after his excellent turn as the character in the 2013 Big Finish box set UNIT: Dominion. This is the first time that the new Master and the Eighth Doctor will appear together so you can bet that there’s going to be a few cross words exchanged after their last encounter in San Francisco!

Whilst Nicholas Briggs takes Directing and writing duties on himself, he’s also got some co-writers along for the ride including Matt Fitton and Eighth Doctor extraordinaire Alan Barnes which, all in all, makes for one very exciting box set release next year!

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!

Sounds exciting. McG became my doctor during “the dark ages” before NuWho.

The Eighth Doctor actually encountered the Master thrice after San Francisco. In the 1999 and 2000 Doctor Who Magazine comic strips, ‘The Fallen’ and ‘The Glorious Dead’. And in a 2001 BBC-sanctioned Eighth Doctor Adventures novel, ‘The Adventuress of Henrietta Street’. All official, licensed fiction albeit not performed but nonetheless as canonical as Big Finish Productions. *Fun geek fact*: The reason why the books, comics and these audios don’t add up. The Eighth Doctor had an enemy known as the Faction Paradox which confused and muddled the events of his life and even without their help, this incarnation was a riddle of temporal orbits and paradoxes, altered timelines, divergent universes and retconned adventures, all kinds of chronological anomalies. Impossible to keep coherent track of unlike the other more straight-forward faces of the Doctor.
