Former Companions Recall Life in the TARDIS

Right now on The Guardian website, Doctor Who fans can find a few choice treats laid out in preparation for this Saturday’s (28th September) ‘Weekend Magazine’  article featuring interviews with several former companions.

Currently the site has short video interviews with a host of former companions, talking about their respective times on the show, its impact on their careers and experiences with fans and other companions on the convention circuit.

Such gems include:

I’ve not really seen anyone at conventions. I was sat next to the Incredible Hulk.

Billie Piper

Also on the site is a nine minute video featuring Billie Piper, Karen Gillan, Freema Agyeman, Louise Jameson, Katy Manning and Carole Ann Ford discussing everything from the functionality of their characters costumes (poor Katy Manning and her frozen feet) through to their views on  the possibility of a female Doctor and a great many point inbetween.

Having watched the videos, I don’t know about anyone else, but I could listen to these ladies talk all day.

You can read interviews with a grand total of thirteen of the Doctor’s companions in the Guardian’s Saturday 28 September Weekend magazine.

    Freema: “I would love to see the Doctor speak and maybe not have an English accent one day”

    Erm, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that as you spoke those exact words there was a close-up of Sylvester McCoy on the screen. And don’t forget that Capaldi is just around the corner and hopefully he’ll speak with his natural Scottish accent.

      Remember, though, in the UK folks might not see the different accents as being anything different. The Southern US and Bostonian accents are often called American accents, too. And Freema was also rolling in Eccleston’s northern accent under the banner too.

      Anyway, great video — one I hope the BBC considers including on a future DVD release. You don’t see Billie interviewed very often about Doctor Who – there’s been a total lack of interviews with her regarding the anniversary special and not so much as a behind-the-scenes photo – so she was quite the catch for the Guardian. Her pouting over having to sit next to the Hulk was priceless.

        But take note:
        English ≠ British
        American = American
        (also ,American ≠ US, but that doesn’t matter that much)

    Why are all the classic series photos in black and white?
