What a Magnificent Head!

On the heels of Alasdair Dewar’s hints at a Twelfth Doctor figure in the works at Character Options, we have news that BifBangPow is already hard at work on their own figure, this one 8-inch scale EMCE action figure, to join their 8-inch scale collection that already includes, among others, the Fourth Doctor and Leela, as well as the First and Eleventh Doctors.

The first sign of a Twelfth Doctor figure, thanks to BiffBangPowWhile all the details of 12′s look have not yet been announced, the artists at BifBangPow have already created a prototype head sculpt for figure, which, like the others in the line, will have real fabric clothing, accessories, and will have multiple points of articulation. Says BifBangPow’s Bethany Grenald:

I was really excited to hear that Peter Capaldi has been chosen to be the 12th incarnation of Doctor Who! Of course, for us, the announcement immediately threw us into high gear! We are licensed to make Doctor Who action figures, and we want to be sure that fans can get their hands on their 12th Doctor action figures as soon as possible!

Along with the Twelfth Doctor, BifBangPow has plans for figures of all of the Doctors as well as River Song, Weeping Angels and other Who characters. The company is looking at a Fall 2014 release for many of the figures. You can read more about the plans on the BigBangPow website.

The Twelfth Doctor is currently available for pre-order at Entertainment Earth for $21.99. Given that each figure in the line is made in limited quantities, you might want to secure yours now ahead of the anticipated May 2014 release!

About the Author

Rebecca is new to the Who world, having only recently watched the entire new series in a span of 8 days. She is no stranger to sci-fi though, being a life long Trekkie and has vague memories of seeing the 4th Doctor on US television as a child. When not watching, reading, blogging, or talking about Doctor Who, she is a fan of pop culture and loves movies and books so much she has to keep a list of both so she doesn't forget any of them. She also likes to make attempts at various forms of art including photography and painting. Rebecca is currently working her way through as many classic serials and as many books related to the show that she can find and wishes she could have been with the Doctor and Amy when they met Van Gogh.

Excellent work, but not what I’m interested in. I have most of Character Options 5″ figures since the series’ return. 3.75″ or 8″ figures are of no interest to me as they would stick out like a sore thumb among my collection (and believe me I get enough grief from my better half as it is for the collection I have). In many ways the new scale figures have been a blessing in disguise – I save copious amounts of money and my already vast collection is not added to. From what I hear CO are going to hemorrhage paying customers due to their ‘making figures more affordable’ to us. The money they save in plastic they’ll need because they are going to lose so many loyal customers buying their products.

Like the article Ms. Crockett, very well written.

I believe this was a great time to get everyone’s attention to their products. With the specials and whatnot, many people will be looking to update any collections that they may have. It is a time when I am personally going to be spending quite a bit to put on a mini who-a-palooza in my little corner of the world, and I would imaging a lot of people are going to go all “who crazy” these next few months.

So, I think BiffBangPow’s timing is almost dead on (I would have waited a month closer, but that’s just me).

Very nice Capaldi likeness and $22 doesn’t seem like a bad price for an 8″ figure with actual cloth clothes.

They are very nice, articulated, well made figures. Not Big Chief level, of course, but as you noted, $22.00 is quite a reasonable price for a figure of such quality, and a far cry from the Big Chief price tag of $220.00 and up (signed editions). The Hartnell figure in particular is a favorite of mine. Spot on likeness, and decently tailored clothing. I hope sales are robust enough to facilitate their goal of producing all the Doctors, at the very least, and a decent Clara will make up for that, in my opinion, atrocity Clara recently released in 3.75 scale by Character Options.
