Series 1-7 Limited Edition Blu-ray Giftset

Fanfare please as BBC Entertainment has announced ‘the definite Doctor Who collection for the ages.’

This towering monolith that will cast a shadow across all of time collects together the complete new Doctor Who on Blu-ray plus an amazing assortment of additional items, including the Doctor Who Universal Remote Control Sonic Screwdriver.

DW Series 1-7

The epoch shattering, US only collection includes Series 1-4, featuring the Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston and Tenth Doctor, David Tennant, making their Blu-ray debut in newly remastered versions at full 1080p high definition, plus the David Tennant Specials collection and Series 5-7 featuring Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, also at a suitably swanky resolution.

All the bonus features from the previous releases are included, as well as a bonus disc with three new-to-Blu-ray specials: The Brit List’s Ultimate Doctor Who List of Lists; The Best of the Christmas Specials; and the full 90-minute Doctor Who at the Proms, newly remastered with 5.1 Surround Sound.

The beautifully packaged Doctor Who: Series 1-7 Limited Edition Gift Set is available to pre-order now for an astronomical $314.99.

Well at least you can toggle the zoom feature over at Amazon US to get a closer look at The Thing You Can Never Have or if you’re like me, you can wiggle it to make it look as though you’re desperately trying to pull the gift set out of your letterbox during an earthquake.

About the Author

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.

Ya know, for $315, i would want a wooden and glass box. Just sayin.

  2. avatar Stephen says:

It comes with the universal remote sonic screwdriver, which itself costs $100, so actually it’s not as astronomical as it sounds if you take that into account.

  3. avatar Mark Lenton says:

I do hope we get a british release as these will be horrible 60i upscales like the ‘region free’ s4 specials boxset with motion aretefacts.

I wouldn’t advise anyone in the UK to import this as they will probably find they have traded increased resolution for jerky movement.

  4. avatar Hyncharas says:

In a lot of ways that alienates a lot of fans who already have the first four seasons on Blu-Ray.

I hope they also release a version of that box set just for the Smith-era, still with the screwdriver.

    • avatar Mark Lenton says:

No fans will have the first four series on Blu-Ray – they’ve never been released….

    • avatar Mark P says:

The first 4 seasons and the first special were shot in Standard def. Only season 5 onwards was shot in hi-def. Any blu-rays of 1-4 and the first special will be upconverted standard def.

All the smith ones have been relased already on blu-ray. It the Eccleston and Tennant (with the exception of the 3 specials for the latter) that haven’t been released on blu-ray before this boxset. Most would be more interested in the standalone blu-rays for those.

      • avatar Mark Lenton says:

I’d buy the specials if they were native 50i rather than upped the dodgy framerate of 60i making them jerky for motion,

    • avatar Al says:

Anyone who has the first four seasons on Blu-ray have themselves a bunch of bootlegs.

  5. avatar Mugen Pharoah says:

Wot no U.K. release? Cheers Beeb. Thanks a bunch.

    • avatar Al says:

Don’t panic. You’ll probably get a version that’ll make North Americans go “I wish we had that.” You usually do when it comes to the season sets.

  6. avatar Al says:

I hope you mean “North American only” collection. I’m in Canada and we usually get the US releases up here too. By the way, $315 works out to about $40 per set and that doesn’t include the sonic screwdriver so it might be closer to $30. Compare to the sets individually costing as much as $90 on their original release on DVD. This is a bargain and one I’ll snap up if it is available north of the border.

  7. avatar Cody says:

Does anyone know if the sonic screwdriver remote comes with the display stand that it usually comes with when you buy it separately?

    • avatar Hugh Pearson says:

      I’m in Canada too & pre-order price is $297.89 CAD !
