Doctor Who News Could The Hobbit's Peter Jackson direct a Doctor Who film?

Peter Jackson Not Directing Who

At least not any time soon anyway.

Should Peter Jackson direct an episode of Doctor Who?

While it is well documented that the Middle-Earth mastermind is an avid fan of the show and would jump at the chance to direct an episode of the show, Deadline have commented that it’s unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future.

The director is completely engrossed in the second and third installments of The Hobbit trilogy, and he will not be emerging from Middle Earth for the better part of two years.

But don’t let that dampen our collective spirits; remember that this is the director who has said that he would direct an episode in return for a Dalek. He may be a little preoccupied at the minute, but that wont always be the case and as we know, Doctor Who fans are nothing if not patient.

And let’s not forget that this is by no means a quiet time for the show with a 50th anniversary special, a Christmas special, a new Doctor and a new series next year to look forward to - its not like we are going to be short of things to enjoy while Peter Jackson finishes up with his dwarves and dragons trilogy.

So what do you think: is Peter Jackson worth waiting for or do you think its all just so much hype? Comment below and let us hear what you have to say on the subject.

I would love for Jackson to direct an episode, but sadly I don’t think it will ever happen.

I would like to see Peter make The Time-Wars into a movie.

  3. HE IS COMPLETELY WORTH WAITING FOR!!

No, not interested. All his films are over-long and totally un-engaging.

I’d rather have Gaeme Harper back. Not the biggest fan of Jackson I’m afraid – though I’m sure he’d do a good job of it.

Hmmmm…all he wanted for it was a Dalek. Maybe after ‘Asylum’, they ran out.

The mixed reaction to the Hobbit has sort of taken the bloom of Jackson’s rose for a lot of people, so it’s not the “waiting with baited breath” thing everyone seems to think it is. That said, by the time work is ready to begin on the 2015 series he’s going to be pretty much done with the Hobbit and, as the new guy’s sophomore year, there’s going to need to be some boost to keep interest up. Having Jackson direct and episode that (per Moffat) would likely end up being shot in either New Zealand or Australia would definitely generate interest, so the timing would be good for them to try something like that then.

They could probably use Jackson’s studios for basically the cost of electricity, and maybe get Andy Sirkis to direct an episode. Seriously, they could just rent the cameras for a few days, fly the actors down, boom, done!
